Hello and welcome to Main Street Waterbury in March 2006 and all the “madness” that goes along with it. I can’t think of a better way to compliment this month then with an opportunity to sample some fine food from the area’s best Chefs. That’s right; Main Street Waterbury is pleased to announce our second annual fundraising event “Eat Your Art Out 2006, Back for Seconds!” Save the date for Monday March 27th. This years edible art show theme will be Downtown Waterbury.
Building upon the success and critical acclaim of last year’s event, we’ve added several additional features. Patrons will have a chance to taste delectable bite-sized samples of each entry. There will also be an opportunity to purchase a VIP ticket that will get you into the event a little earlier for a reception and give you a chance to vote for the “Peoples Choice Award”. In addition, VIP ticket holders will get first viewing of Silent Auction items.
Eat Your Art Out 2006 is being sponsored by Webster Bank who once again has demonstrated their huge commitment to Waterbury and their tremendous support for Main Street Waterbury. If last year was any indication, this event is going to be fun and exciting and definitely a place you’ll want to be if you love good food and have an appreciation for the many culinary talents of our area Chefs. But also keep in mind, it is a fund raising event for Main Street Waterbury and is a critical component to our funding strategy that enables us to carry out our work plans and projects for Downtown Waterbury revitalization.
To that end, one of our ongoing projects is our Restaurant Recruiting Program. In partnership with the Waterbury Development Corporation, Main Street Waterbury is actively seeking restaurant owners and interested developers to showcase available locations in our downtown district for setting up a dining establishment. Hopefully, interested parties will attend Eat Your Art Out, network with fellow restaurateurs, experience the magnificence of the Palace and see the many possibilities for them.
In other Main Street news, planning is now underway for the second annual Downtown Draw. This program is similar to a “Chalk Walk” where school children and other organizations are encouraged decorate, with chalk, a 6 foot by 6 foot square with any desired design. It will be held on May 20 on Leavenworth Street and will coincide with the 4th annual “Tour of Connecticut Waterbury Circuit Bike Race”. Last year, the Waterbury Regional Chamber’s Leadership Class created this event. It was such a success that they passed it on to Main Street for this year. Hopefully it will become an annual Bike Race day tradition for Downtown Waterbury for years to come. Sponsorships will be needed to help with the funding of this event. If you are interested, please contact my office for details.
The Farmers’ Market will be back again this year on the Green. Starting in July and running through the end of October, every Thursday will be designated as “Come to the Green Day”. In addition to having the opportunity to purchase fresh Connecticut Grown produce, there will be entertainment and other crafters and shopping options. This year the intention is to start the Farmer’s market earlier in the day to enable many from the downtown professional and business community a chance to get out to the Green at lunchtime. The new market time will be 11AM to 3PM. In addition, Main Street is working with the Mattatuck Museum and the City of Waterbury to schedule additional entertainment for later in the day on Thursdays. So be prepared to come to the Green every Thursday.
That’s all for now. If you are interested in experiencing “Eat Your Art Out 2006, Back for Seconds”, you can get ticket information by calling my office at 203-757-0701 ext. 302 or visiting our website www.mainstreetwaterbury.com
