The Waterbury Police Department continues to actively investigate and proactively patrol areas of the city with reports of the sale of narcotics, shots fired, violent crimes, and other weapons related complaints. On October 24, 2019 a patrol officer saw a white Acura TL being operated on East Main Street. This vehicle was suspected to have been involved in a recent shooting that took place on Mill Street on October 15, 2019. Several patrol units responded to the area to assist.

A responding patrol officer in a marked cruiser with emergency lights/sirens activated saw this vehicle exit a gas station on Meriden Road and then speed through the intersection with Manor Avenue. The Acura nearly struck this marked police cruiser head-on. The Acura continued through the parking lot of 159 Manor Avenue, and while attempting to flee onto Meriden road the Acura collided into two other marked police cruisers. The Acura continued across Meriden Road and drove up Hungerford Avenue which is a dead-end road. The Acura pulled into a driveway of a home and stopped.

Both the driver and the front passenger exited the Acura and began to flee on foot. A patrol officer ran after passenger and when the officer grabbed him he dropped a handgun to the ground. This suspect refused to obey the officer’s commands and resisted arrest. The officer used physical force to subdue the suspect. The suspect was handcuffed and arrested. This suspect was later identified as Joshua Taylor (DOB 9/5/1990) from Bridgeport, CT. A search incident to arrest found Taylor to be in possession of a knotted bag containing marijuana. It was later determined that there was an active arrest warrant issued by the City of Waterbury Police Department Fugitive Unit for Taylor for Escape 1 st from custody.  

As the driver began to flee on foot to avoid arrest, another officer ran after him. This suspect refused to obey the officer’s commands and  resisted arrest. The officer used physical force and subdued the suspect.  The suspect was handcuffed and arrested. The suspect was identified as Anthony Brockington (DOB 4/4/1990) from Waterbury, CT. A search incident to arrest found Brockington to be in possession of a knotted bag containing marijuana and a knotted bag containing crack cocaine.  The detectives and the Forensic Unit responded to assist in this investigation. The Forensic unit processed the scene and collected the evidence.

Taylor was arrested and charged with:
 Carrying a Pistol without a Permit
 Weapon in Motor a Vehicle
 Illegal Transfer/Possession of Firearm
 Criminal Possession of Firearm
 Criminal Possession of Ammunition
 Interfering with an Officer
 Simple Possession of Marijuana

Taylor is being held prior to arraignment in court/GA 4 and will be remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Brockington was arrested and charged with:

 Operation of motor vehicle without a license
 Reckless Driving

 Engaging Police in Pursuit
 Criminal Mischief in the 1 st (2 CTS)
 Possession of Marijuana over ½ ounce
 Possession of Narcotics
 Interfering with an Officer

Brockington is being held on a $50,000 bond pending arraignment in court/ GA 4.
