Everyone is gearing up for the holiday season, and this year will be a special one for Waterbury’s downtown. Post University is bringing Santa back to Bank St. beginning Saturday, December 7.

“We are excited to usher in the holidays in such a personal, genuine way,” said Post University President and CEO John L. Hopkins. “By capturing the essence of downtown’s history and merging it with the present, families will be able to experience the innocent, magical nature of the holidays their parents and grandparents enjoyed, as we resurrect the tradition of Christmas in downtown Waterbury.”

Last December, the university moved into the historical Howland-Hughes building. The former department store was a hub for retail in Waterbury as well as memorable for its festival displays, including a “Santa’s Workshop” display.

On December 7, the wonder and magic of a traditionally decorated storefront returns to grace the building’s interior. The window displays will include marionettes from the original “Grand Old Lady’s” decor while the lobby will merge old themes with new technologies. Children will once again meet Santa in the lobby, but Post’s new, state-of-the-art LED wall will serve as Santa’s backdrop, displaying a snowscape outside his workshop window.

The yuletide events also will involve local Waterbury businesses, including the local theatrical nonprofit, Shakespearience, and Sweet Maria’s bakeshop, owned by Post University alumna Maria Sanchez, who will provide delicious cookies.

Post Downtown also will serve as a collection location for the Connecticut State Trooper “Stuff a Cruiser” Holiday Toy Drive.

The holiday celebrations will occur from noon to 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday through December 22. Post Downtown is located at 140 Bank Street in Waterbury, CT. Free parking is available on event days at the Buckingham Garage/Waterbury Transportation Center located at 210 Bank Street. For more information, please visit  https://post.edu/christmas/.
