On Friday and Saturday, January 11 - 12, 2019, Upper School Chorus singers Kathleen Green ’19 (Woodbury), Margaret McGuire ’20 (New Milford), and Emily Segal ’21 (Southbury), participated in the Connecticut Music Educators Association Southern Regional Music Festival, held at Platt High School in Meriden. The girls auditioned for their spots in the festival choir back in November, being judged on their performance of scales, sight-singing, and an Italian art song.
The Arts Program at Chase Collegiate School is excited and proud to offer as part of our curriculum the skills and practice to create and present their work; student exposure to experiences off campus with diverse communities of people working towards a common goal. Marissa Famiglietti Apland, Arts Faculty Member: Choral and Musical Theater Director (PreK - 12), Private Voice Lesson Instructor, and National Touring Vocalist, shared that the student ensembles completed nearly ten hours of intense rehearsals between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning culminating in public performances beginning in the early afternoon.
“ The CMEA festival is such a valuable opportunity for our singers, allowing them to experience new rehearsal techniques and musical ideas, as well as an elevated level of choral repertoire. As a music educator, the festival is a wonderful learning tool as well. It is so valuable to exchange ideas with the other music teachers in attendance, and learn new tools and best practices from the esteemed guest conductors.”
