Ask Judy, September 2011

Dear Judy,
I recently went shopping for sunglasses. I had  my heart set on Ray- Bans and had researched them. I  went to the sunglass section of an upscale department store and told the salesgirl what I wanted. She said, “Everyone wants Ray- Bans, how about Chanel?” Before I could say no, she was putting the Chanel glasses on me, and telling me how good I looked. I looked at the price and knew there was no way I was buying Chanel sunglasses. I wanted Ray -Bans..She then had me try on Dior, which I also had no interest in, and then another brand I don’t remember. She then said she had just the pair for me. A pair of Kate Spade sunglasses. I put them on and have to admit, they were very flattering, and only $3 more than the Ray –Bans. I ended up getting them, but when I left the store I felt bamboozled. I felt like I had been talked into something I probably wouldn’t have bought otherwise. I like the sunglasses, but I don’t like how I felt when I left the store. I felt like I had to buy something the salesgirl was recommending because she was working so hard. I felt like it was easier just to go along with her solution. Why does this happen to me?

Ask Judy, July 2011

Fri, 07/01/2011 - 03:00

Dear Judy,
Friends of mine, a married couple, originally from Oregon, moved to Arizona after he got a job with my company. They had two children after moving to AZ and seemed very happy. The wife was always close to her dad and after her dad retired  her parents moved to AZ. All was going well and good until her dad was diagnosed with cancer, and given a year to live. After her dad’s symptoms became more severe he moved back to Portland because it is a “Right to Die” state. Once her dad was back in Portland she visited him one or two times. Her dad signed the paperwork, and had her sign the paper work to take the pills to end his life. My friend took his wife to the airport to take the last trip to see her dad.

Well my friend shows up at my house, and it’s been a year since this happened. My friend’s wife is a wreck and has been driving him crazy for a year.  She has moral issues around her dad ending his life. She is so conflicted that the last time she saw him he took life ending drugs. She is totally wigged out. What should the husband do? He is a computer guy and she is a psychotherapist by profession.

Ask Judy, June 2011

Wed, 06/01/2011 - 03:00

Dear Judy,
My husband of less than a year and I just bought a house together. I really like the house and it’s in a great school district, I just can’t stand living with his teenage daughter. My two kids,  a 13 year old daughter and a ten year old son live with us too. His daughter, Delcy, is a little whore and a bully. She plays her music so loud, my daughter can’t study. I was so mad at her for doing this, I gave away her cd player and ipod to goodwill. She is still being wild though…she’s a bad influence on my daughter.

When I came home yesterday both girls had boys in their rooms. My daughter has gotten caught shoplifting, and run away…but she has never brought boys home before. I’m taking the locks off their doors. Usually my husband will discipline Delcy with a belt, but lately she’s been getting away with everything. Her mother died 6 years ago of cancer, and my husband moved out, because he couldn’t take it. Delcy and her 19 year old sister stayed and took care of their mom. When she died, they stayed in the house until it sold. Now she lives with us…UGH!! I can’t stand it. I just want her OUT! I hate her.

Everyone loved her mother and thought she was a saint. I hate her mother. I can’t compete with a saint.   Delcy has the biggest  bedroom  in the house but now I hate her, so I want my son in that room. When she leaves to visit her sister for the summer, I’m moving her stuff out, and my son’s stuff in. If she doesn’t move out soon, I’m divorcing my husband. I don’t understand why he can’t see how bad she is. Why doesn’t he make her move out?

Dear Judy,

My roommate consistently passes out on the stairs leading up to his room fully dressed. Right before this he calls all of his friends multiple times and all the girls he has had multiple flings with. Does he have a drinking problem or is this just college shenanigans?

Ask Judy December 2007

Sat, 12/01/2007 - 04:00

Dear Judy,

I think my son’s 5th grade teacher is gay. She isn’t married, is very overweight and masculine looking, and checks me out every time I come to school, whether it’s to pick my son up for a Dr’s app. or attend a conference. It makes me feel uncomfortable. Last time I came in I was dressed up to fly to an event out of town. She commented that I looked “so sexy “that I “might get kicked off the plane.”(This is in reference to a recent news story where a woman was kicked off the plane for wearing a skirt that was too short and sexually provacative.) I was stunned. While I was flattered she thought I looked nice I thought it went too far. Should I say something? What if she tries to touch me?

Ask Judy September 2007

Dear Judy,

I’ve been noticing lately that when men walk their dogs it’s rare that they carry along a plastic bag to clean up the poop. The women always do. Why is that?
