DEAL$ ON MAIN

Sun, 07/08/2012 - 21:13

Main Street Waterbury announces a new initiative for Downtown Waterbury merchants and businesses as it introduces a weekly sidewalk sale entitled DEAL$ ON MAIN. In an effort to stimulate more foot traffic downtown during the summer months, the downtown revitalization organization is encouraging retail merchants to set up a table with some of their merchandise on the sidewalk directly in front of their stores.

Downtown restaurateur Rich Rivera of El Americano Restaurant took the lead on encouraging downtown merchants to participate. With encouragement and help from Carol Gendron of Café Europa and Corrine DeSantis of Butterfly Affects Unisex Salon, approximately 20 merchants have signed on to participate and it is hoped that more will get involved as the program evolves.

The intent is to have the sale every Tuesday from 10AM-2PM during the summer months and merchants may extend this to Thursdays and Saturdays as well. Participating merchants have agreed to offer special promotions and deals for these sidewalk sale days that encourage the patron to stop by and visit all participating locations.

Main Street Waterbury is assisting the merchants with this event by providing marketing fliers and directional maps. In addition, they are sponsoring free parking in the parking garages during Tuesday “DEAL$ ON MAIN” days to promote visitors to drive downtown and shop.

Main Street Waterbury CEO Carl Rosa states, “In addition to the fabulous restaurants and sandwich shops downtown, there are many great shopping opportunities with a wide variety offered from men’s clothing to fine jewelry to gifts made exclusively in Connecticut, books, kids clothing and much more. There are hidden treasures waiting to be discovered and you might just find them on Tuesday’s during “DEAL$ ON MAIN”.

For more information, contact the Main Street Waterbury office at 203-757-0701 ext. 302.

Main Street Waterbury is a 501c3 not for profit downtown management and revitalization program in the context of historic preservation. Through improving the physical appearance of downtown Waterbury, promoting its architectural and cultural assets, organizing volunteer initiatives, sponsoring events, and fostering public/private partnerships, Main Street Waterbury hopes to economically rejuvenate Waterbury’s downtown district without sacrificing its character or heritage. We are proud to receive major support from -- The City of Waterbury, Webster Bank, Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Waterbury Development Corporation.
