37th Annual Poetry Contest Finale

Silas Bronson Library Children’s Services Division held their 37th Annual Poetry Contest Awards Night on Thursday, May 31st, 2012.  Eight First Prize students in grades one through eight were awarded a certificate, a metal engraved bookmark, and a book of poetry.  Eight Honorable Mention students in grades one through eight were also awarded a certificate and the metal engraved bookmark.  The contest was open to all Waterbury public and private school students as well as to all students living in Waterbury.  Over 1065 poems were received and judged by four independent judges.  Families, friends, principals and teachers of winning students were invited to attend.  A total of 74 children and adults attended.   Les Julian, a musician and storyteller sang, and played various instruments and interacted well with the audience.  Refreshments were provided by Stop & Shop at 910 Wolcott Street in Waterbury.  Funding was provided by Friends of the Library and the Connecticut Humanities Council.

Winners:  Nicholas Barrett, Jessica Spillane, Nehway Sahn, Mariella Landry, Joshua Rio, Tyler Kiluk, Skyler Warner, Elsa Kollcinaku

Honorable Mention:  Jennifer Carroll, Erin Goggin, Lexicity Omagbon, Kendelle Pitts,                      Jesse Breidenbach, Matthew Barrett
