Hartford Music Festival to support Sandy Hook

Members of Downtown Hartford’s restaurant and bar community are working together to present a one-day music festival on January 27th, 2013 to raise funds in support of those affected by last month’s tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Presented as “Downtown Rocks For Newtown” the event will feature over 50 local, regional and national acts performing across 10 stages.

Volunteer to Make a Memory Bear

A Memory Bear, sewn by a volunteer with compassion and love, is a forever friend who can ease a hurting heart after the death of a VITAS hospice patient.

Sewn from a favorite pair of jeans, a pullover top, dress, bathrobe or nightgown, a Memory Bear may recall the closeness of a loved one, bring a smile to someone in distress, or offer a sense of security to a child who feels alone after  the loss of a parent or sibling.

Grants Available for Area Non-Profits

The Connecticut Community Foundation is currently accepting grant requests for its first round of funding for 2013.

Grants are made possible by funds established by area donors and are available to nonprofits in Greater Waterbury and Northwest Connecticut.

Deadline to apply is Friday, February 1, 2013.

Water-Oak GOP to Honor Bozzuto

The 2013 Watertown-Republican Town Committee Lincoln Day Dinner honoring former State Senator Richard C. “Dick” Bozzuto will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 7 pm at the Grand Oak Villa, located at 550 Sylvan Lake Road in Oakville.

Bozzuto, who also ran for Governor and U.S. Senate, will be honored for his years of dedication to the state of Connecticut and the Republican Party. Various speakers for the fete will be announced next week.
